Weddings in Fiji are legally recognized in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and EEC countries.
You cannot pre-arrange documentation for a marriage in Fiji. You must go to the registry office in person to apply for a Marriage License.
You need to have the following documentation with you:
- Current passports of couple to be married
- Original birth certificates of couple to be married
- Divorce papers (if applicable)
- Death certificate of former spouse (if applicable)
- Parental consent if under 21
The District Office is open weekdays from 9am-3pm (excluding Public Holidays) and appointments last around 15 minutes. Offices are in Nadi, Suva, Lautoka and Sigatoka and the cost of application is F$25.00.
The wedding must occur within 28 days of the application.
Catholic weddings require a letter of Freedom sent 2-3 months in advance to the Fijian Priest along with Baptism Certificates.
You may only need to allow a day for a trip to Suva before the wedding. This trip is included in Lalati Resort Fiji Wedding Packages. Contact us for the specific details on when you will need to arrive in Fiji before your wedding day.
Birth, death and/or divorce certificates must either be originals or copies certified by and bearing the seal of the issuing authorities.
If either party is under the age of 21 years, a written notarized consent is required from the father; the consent may be signed by the mother only if the father is deceased or cannot be located.
Marriage applicants from Japan must produce the Koseki - Shouhon to certify their personal details before marriage in Fiji.
After the wedding ceremony has taken place, your signed documents are sent in for processing, and an official Wedding Certificate will be mailed to you approximately 4 weeks later.
