Fiji Diving- Beqa Lagoon
Beqa Lagoon - Resort Diving- Fiji Islands
Scuba Diving at Lalati Resort is some of the best in the Fiji Islands combining the astounding soft coral gardens of Beqa Lagoon for which Fiji's diving is famous, with wreck diving, shark diving and a muck dive house “reef” filled with unusual and rare creatures - a favorite with underwater photographers.
All of the these Fiji diving types: reef, wreck, muck and shark diving, can easily be done as a day trip while spending your evenings in luxury accommodations, dining on gourmet meals and enjoying peaceful surroundings. No need to “rough it” at Lalati - Fiji! And, unguided shore diving is free.
Beqa Lagoon Resort Diving
Beqa Lagoon consists of over a hundred square miles of sea surrounded by approximately 190 miles of spectacular coral, Beqa Lagoon is one of the world’s largest barrier reefs.
Diving these calm protected waters is like exploring another world. The water is clear and warm, visibility is typically between 50 and 100 feet, currents are generally mild. When diving in Beqa Lagoon you can expect a water temperature of around 79°F/26°C most of the year.
It’s the multihued soft corals and the larger variety of marine life that differentiate the South Pacific from the Caribbean. Some soft corals look like giant flowering bushes, others like large bonsai trees, with thick, white stalks sporting broccoli-like clusters in red, pink or purple. Parts of the reef are covered by short soft corals, looking like a shag carpet. In the shallow waters where sunlight penetrates the sea, these colors glow like neon, the fish life is splendid and it's incredible for snorkeling and well as diving. We've read many times that the visibiltiy in Beqa Lagoon is a gin-clear 100ft., but find instead that visibility is often 50-60ft. due to the nutients in the water that provide food to keep the fishes and corals so healthy and prolific.
Led by friendly, trained and expert native Fijian dive staff, Beqa Lagoon resort dive trips are a kaleidoscope of hard and soft corals and an abundance of fish and other marine life. The great pinnacles of Beqa Lagoon, a submerged volcano and wreck and shark dives, are just a short boat ride away on one of our 2 custom diving catamarans.
Because of our small size, dive groups are small and our friendly Fijian staff will make all dives personalized and catered to your needs. Cruise the sandy bottomed canyons between Beqa’s coral pinnacles and you’ll likely spot White Tip Reef Sharks taking an afternoon snooze. Duck into a swim through and introduce yourself to our photogenic lionfish. Schools of barracuda and trevally will check you out as they swim by. The elusive Blue Ribbon Eels are out at nearly every dive site. And the top of the bommies are so covered in soft corals and schools of swarming fish that our safety stops are hard to leave.
Fiji Muck Diving
For the little critter seekers and underwater photographers there is our shore dive, a beach dive right in front of the dive shop called Jayne’s Lane after owner and every day out front diver, Jayne Carlson.
Jayne's Lane is a treasure chest of the small and well hidden marine life. Take your time and you’ll discover everything from ghost pipefish to juvenile frog fish to sea horses. And, unguided shore diving is free with a pre-purchased dive package!
Fiji Shark Diving
Due to the special knowledge and equipment necessary to run shark dives in safety, Lalati Resort's dive staff does not undertake shark diving themselves. Shark feeding dives are available with one of Fiji's best shark diving operators and will be arranged for you by our dive shop.
Fiji Diving Instruction
If you are new to diving, PADI's Discover Scuba and PADI Open Water Diver courses are available at our resort in Fiji and include dive instructor and free use of the dive equipment you will need.
